Those with plans to travel through El Paso have been encouraged to contact their airlines for alternate arrangements.

The Federal Aviation Administration has announced a 10-day closure of airspace around El Paso International Airport, citing “special security reasons.”

During the closure, no flights may take off, land, or travel through El Paso airspace.

According to reporting from Fox News, the U.S. government “may use deadly force” against an aircraft in violation, if it is deemed to pose “an imminent security threat.”

The closure is expected to last through February 20.

Those with plans to travel through El Paso have been encouraged to contact their airlines for alternate arrangements.
