Democrats Vote For ‘Confidence’ Candidates Over Competent Ones
In three separates cases, Democrats chose confidence over competence, driven by a collective ignorance that prioritizes hating the other side over understanding policy consequences.

In the annals of American history, the term “confidence man” traces its roots back to 1849, when a suave New York swindler named William Thompson approached well-dressed strangers on the street, engaging them in friendly conversation to build trust. Once he had gained their “confidence,” he'd ask to borrow their watch or valuables, promising to return them shortly—and then vanish. The New York Herald dubbed him the “confidence man,” a phrase that entered the lexicon to describe anyone who exploits trust for personal gain. This archetype, immortalized in Herman Melville’s 1857 novel The Confidence-Man, perfectly encapsulates the modern leftist politician: smooth-talking charlatans who peddle lies and empty promises with unshakeable bravado, preying on the gullibility of voters more interested in sticking it to the “other side” than in actual governance.
Today’s Democrats have elevated the confidence man to an art form, prioritizing swagger and ideological purity over competence and truth. They vote not for leaders who can deliver results, but for those who confidently spew falsehoods while stoking hatred against conservatives. This phenomenon stems from a “collective ignorance”—a willful blindness indoctrinated by progressive echo chambers, where facts take a backseat to feelings of moral superiority and partisan rage. Backed by a complicit legacy media that amplifies their deceptions, these politicians rise to power, only to reveal their incompetence once in office. Let’s examine a few glaring examples: Joe Biden, New York City mayor Zohran Mamdani, Seattle mayor Katie Wilson, and Virginia governor Abigail Spanberger—all of whom masked radical agendas behind moderate facades, only to unleash chaos upon election.
Start with Joe Biden, the epitome of the bumbling confidence man whose presidency was built on a foundation of lies, propped up by a media eager to parrot his disinformation. During the 2020 campaign, Biden repeatedly denied any involvement in his son Hunter’s shady foreign business dealings, claiming he “never talked to Hunter about his business.” Yet, the infamous Hunter Biden laptop—abandoned at a Delaware repair shop and filled with emails detailing influence-peddling schemes involving Ukrainian and Chinese entities—told a different story. When the New York Post broke the news in October 2020, Biden's camp, aided by 51 former intelligence officials, dismissed it as “Russian disinformation.” These so-called experts, many of whom were active CIA contractors at the time, signed a letter claiming the laptop bore “all the classic earmarks of a Russian information operation.” Biden wielded this fabrication like a shield during his debate with Donald Trump, insisting, “There are 50 former national intelligence folks who said that what he’s accusing me of is a Russian plant.”
