‘F*ck you, Ted’ – Trump’s reported profane reaction to Ted Cruz’s midterm warning

Secret recordings of Texas Sen. Ted Cruz (R) reportedly included an expletive from the president over criticism and slams of alleged coordination between a commentator and the vice president.
With plans for President Donald Trump to hit the campaign trail and for the Republican Party to hold a convention this year, it’s no mystery that the midterm elections are being taken seriously. How that played against the president’s policy decisions was an apparent part of a call filled with “cursing” as challenges to his tariffs were said to have been met with the reply, “F*ck you, Ted.”
According to secret recordings from early and middle 2025 that had been obtained by Axios, the senator had been meeting with donors while challenging decisions of the administration, allegedly jockeying for position for a potential 2028 presidential primary fight.
“Trump was in a bad mood.” Cruz reportedly said following the introduction of tariffs, adding the president was “yelling” and “cursing” on a call with some senators who’d pushed to walk back the economic policy. “I’ve been in conversations where he was very happy. This was not one of them.”
Citing the call, the senator was said to have recounted, warning, “Mr. President, if we get to November of [2026] and people’s 401(k)s are down 30% and prices are up 10-20% at the supermarket, we’re going to go into Election Day, face a bloodbath.”
