‘Turnout Machine’ Trump to Go Full-Throttle in 2026 Midterm Blitz
Rusty Weiss

White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles has revealed that President Donald Trump will aggressively campaign for GOP candidates during the midterms, treating the elections "like it's 2024 again."

Traditional tracks have involved limiting Trump's exposure for Republican candidates in contested elections in the hopes that he won't generate a backlash turnout for Democrats. Wiles' strategy would be a bold departure from that midterm playbook.

And it means the party will embrace a full-throttle defense of the policies and platforms that led to the President's dominating performance in 2024 when he easily dispatched Kamala Harris, whom Democrats and a compliant media heavily promoted as the second coming of Obama.

Housing affordability -- supposedly tariffs are in part the reason why housing has become unaffordable.

What is the big picture that Trump is missing?  The cost of homeowner's insurance and propeprty taxes.  Each of ours has just about tripled in the past 7 years. We have lived in FL for over 30 years and we only made one claim after hurricane Ian - we are IMO helping to pay for those who weren't insured or under insured.

DeSantis and the FL legislature are working on it.  They have proposed several bills which will lower taxes, but very little, because taxes for schools (the largest tax) won't be omited for any age bracket and of course our first responders must be paid. They've tried to resurrect the homeowners insurance industry but many insurers have left the state; homeowners insurance is ridiculous, flood insurance is pretty hefty with no promise that FEMA will even continue to exist, and flood insurance is mandated for those who have mortgages.

So -- IMHO until the insurance and property tax issues are resolved, the issue of home affordability won't be resolved.  The argument of course is that we chose to live in FL. I get that and since we are in no shape to move, we need to accept things as is and go along with the punches.

We have seen an enormous population explosion in FL -- if people find that they can't afford the homes, then they should have done their homework and they shouldn't have moved here in the first place!

....and so....life goes on....

IF the GOP loses FL -- so goes the rest of the midterms. I see it as doubtful.

Other than throwing federal taxpayer money in the form of subsidies, what is the federal government supposed to do about insurance - which is set largely by private companies based on aggregate risk - or property taxes, which are set based on local government budgets.  For the first, there isn’t much to do except limit what can be built on the beachfronts and exposed areas, which is a matter of local and state zoning.  On the second, that requires people to start spending the time and effort to go to local budget meetings, get copies of the local budgets and go through them with a fine-tooth comb, and object, strenuously, to the wasteful spending - school budgets, in particular, should be fought over tooth and nail.  Too often, nobody wants to get involved in their local politics, and so the leftists and authoritarians end up getting free rein to set local budgets to reflect their ideological goals, and once that happens, it’s pretty much too late to do anything about it.

The GOP lost the Miami mayoral race last year. That was held by Republicans since Bill Clinton.

Not that Florida is gonna go blue. But it is a warning that the GOP is vulnerable even in seats that would’ve been considered at least fairly safe

Insurance fraud.  FEMA fraud.  This has been ongoing.  People pay insurance premiums and then are denied or low balled when they file a claim -- then those insurance companies bail out of FL.  There are some insurance companies that have picked up policies of those companies that have left and have made some quick $$ in doing so.

As for FEMA fraud, that is probably one of the biggest boondoggles of the gov't.  When it was first implemented they did well, to the point that they were handing out money in an area hit by a hurricane to those who didn't even file a claim.  That lasted only during one hurricane season (FL) and then they started to deny claims left and right.  Promised trailers and temporary shelters and those never came about.  People have waited years (not months) for FEMA $$.  Meanwhile FEMA premiums have skyrocketed and then they redrew the flood plains which increased the number of people needing to take out a policy.

As for taxes, yes many people don't turn out for elections but there is so much fraud at the local level it is ridiculous.  It seems that they are voted out and another politician comes in that's even worse.  At some point they need to be investigated for fraud.
