'He kissed me and left': Christmas shift turns fatal for New York CVS worker covering for colleague
Story by Maria Hernandez • 15h

Edeedson Cine wasn’t supposed to be behind the counter on Christmas night. The 23-year-old had spent the morning celebrating with his family, even pitching in to wash the dishes before heading out to the CVS on East Montauk Highway. He had picked up the shift at the last minute, a favor for a coworker so they wouldn't have to work the holiday.

By 6:50 p.m., that act of kindness turned into a nightmare.

Suffolk County police officers responded to the drugstore Thursday evening to find Cine suffering from a stab wound to the chest. He was rushed to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip but could not be saved.

Hours after the attack, police arrested 43-year-old John Pilaccio of Lindenhurst. He has been charged with second-degree murder.
