Schumer dead last: Senate leader’s approval tanks as critics blast ‘one-note’ strategy
Story by Danielle Shockey • 22h
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer has found himself at the bottom of the pile in Washington. According to a fresh Gallup poll, the New York Democrat now holds the lowest approval rating among major U.S. political leaders, trailing behind figures like Marco Rubio, J.D. Vance, and Hakeem Jeffries.
The stinging numbers were the topic of a Fox News segment, where contributor Bill McGurn was blunt about the Democratic Party’s current standing.
"The old saying in Washington is if you want a friend, get a dog," the host quipped, referencing Schumer's dismal polling. "I don't know if Chuck Schumer has a dog, but he may want to visit the kennel very soon."
McGurn suggested that while Congressional leaders often lag behind Presidents in popularity—simply because Presidents appear more decisive by nature—Schumer’s struggle is unique. The core issue, according to McGurn, is a distinct lack of actionable policy.
He argued that the Minority Leader has spent the last year focused almost entirely on "complaining about Donald Trump" rather than offering a concrete vision for the country.
