Rep. Eric Swalwell Likens Jesus, Mary, and Joseph to Illegal Migrants on Christmas

Olivia Rondeau 25 Dec 2025

Far-left Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA) likened Jesus, Mary, and Joseph to illegal migrants in a Christmas Day post depicting a nativity scene being raided by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

“May this be the last Christmas we live this nightmare,” the California congressman wrote on X, along with a photo of spray-painted ICE agents breaking into the Bethlehem stable where Jesus was born.

The Bible does not state that Mary and Joseph were illegal immigrants, clearly explaining that they traveled to Bethlehem because Roman Emperor Caesar Augustus ordered a census, requiring everyone to register in their ancestral hometown:

In those days a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be enrolled. This was the first enrollment, when Quirinius was governor of Syria. And all went to be enrolled, each to his own city. [So] Joseph also went up from Galilee, from the city of Nazareth, to Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David (Luke 2:1-4)

At least he didn't claim that Jesus was homeless.

To keep Christ in Christmas, remember Jesus was homeless and a refugee

Joyce M. Davis  |  Dec. 22, 2025  |  11:47 a.m.

It’s the wonderful time of year when Christians celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. And they are once again being called to delete the X and keep Christ in Christmas.

This time of year is not just about buying gifts and singing carols, but about the powerful and revolutionary message the baby boy in the manger brought to the world.

Here are three things Christians may want to remember to delete the X and keep Christ in Christmas:

Jesus was homeless:

Jesus started his life at the bottom of the heap -- homeless and on the run.  .  .  .

If a political party does not have its foundation in the determination to advance a cause that is right and that is moral, then it is not a political party; it is merely a conspiracy to seize power.     -Dwight Eisenhower-

"The [U.S.] Constitution is a limitation on the government, not on private individuals ... it does not prescribe the conduct of private individuals, only the conduct of the government ... it is not a charter for government power, but a charter of the citizen's protection against the government."     -Ayn Rand-

Jesus and his family were none of those things.

  • I was a "conspiracy theorist". Now I'm just right.
Neither refugees nor illegals, but complying with the Roman edict to return to their town of birth for the census (taxation). Joseph was of the House of David, and returning there. This wondrous child was brought gifts of Gold, Frankincense, and Myrrh, all valuable. They were not going to starve.

Besides, God had a plan, and that day of Christ's birth made an eternal gift to all who would listen.

It is awful when the leftists try to conflate that which is as good as good gets with their efforts to harm this nation and to loot it for their personal and political gain. It is a low form of deception used to prey on the uninformed.

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.
