US officials warn snowbirds of 'violent crime' in winter destination hot spot
Story by Ashley J. DiMella • 22h

The U.S. Embassy in Mexico has issued a security alert to snowbird tourists, warning of the potential of "violent crime" during the holiday season.

"Each year, thousands of U.S. citizens visit Mexico during the winter season," reads the alert, which was sent in late November and continues to resonate.

Officials have warned that violent crime can happen anywhere in Mexico — especially in popular tourist destinations.

"U.S. citizens should exercise caution in popular winter break spots," the security alert says.

"This includes San Carlos, Puerto Peñasco (Rocky Point), Los Cabos and Mazatlan, among others, especially after dark."

By means of shrewd lies, unremittingly repeated, it is possible to make people believe that heaven is hell - and hell heaven. The greater the lie, the more readily it will be believed.

The receptivity of the masses is very limited, their intelligence is small, but their power of forgetting is enormous. In consequence of these facts, all effective propaganda must be limited to a very few points and must harp on these in slogans until the last member of the public understands what you want him to understand by your slogan.

The LAST place I would want to go on vacation is Mexico.

If I was a contestant on Wheel of Fortune, and won the prize puzzle and found "the prize" was a vacation there, I'd smile out of deference and then... quietly cancel out of the trip later on.

Why oh why would anyone want to go to Mexico for vacation?  Cheap prices just aren't worth it.

Jamaica, Bahamas, Aruba, Cancun and others used to be destination hot spots.  No thanks.  I'd rather travel to Colorado, Montana, Idaho, Wyoming, the Dakotas, Texas or Alaska.  There is so much to see here in the U.S., why travel outside the country when there is so much hate towards Americans?   Wyoming was always on my bucket list -- that's just not going to happen.  **nononono*
Live in  harmony with one another; do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly, do not claim to be wiser than you are.  Do not repay anyone evil for evil, but take thought for what is noble in the sight of all.  If it is possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all.

I agree 100%. There is so much in our country I haven't seen (and likely will not now).

Many years ago I dated a man that had a job that took him all over the world. He told me at that time...don't leave the country. Too dangerous and Americans aren't loved.

  • I was a "conspiracy theorist". Now I'm just right.

If you go see Mount Rushmore, Wyoming is just to the west...  But unless you're up for Bike Week (Sturgis Rally), avoid the last week of July and the first couple weeks of August.

Seventeen Techniques for Truth Suppression

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.
