HERNANDO COUNTY, Fla. - A dispute that allegedly began over a dog and ended in a driveway shooting has led to a first-degree murder indictment for a Weeki Wachee man.
A Grand Jury on Monday indicted 24-year-old Evan Michael Stanley on a charge of Premeditated First-Degree Murder with a Firearm. The indictment marks a significant shift from the Second-Degree Murder charge Stanley initially faced following the August death of Keval Mehta.
The case stems from a violent escalation in the early morning hours of August 20, 2025. According to the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office, the sequence of events began when Stanley and Mehta, former coworkers, ran into each other at a bar in Spring Hill. When they left around 2 a.m., Mehta offered to drive Stanley home after Stanley’s original ride left without him.
