Just 14% of voters think bachelor’s degree is worth the cost, survey finds

Many Americans no longer believe that colleges produce enough benefits worth the time, money, and effort to receive a degree, according to a new survey of 1,200 registered voters.

The Overton Insights poll asked respondents if they thought a bachelor’s degree today was worth the cost.

Only 14 percent of poll respondents gave an unequivocal yes, while 43 percent said yes but only for specific degrees (such as doctors, lawyers, etc.). Another 38 percent said no.

However, 67 percent of respondents still hold the belief that a college degree is important for someone to succeed in their career today. Only 30 percent said it was not important.

Requirement for a bachelor's degree is a legal way to disriminate against 'those people' - less educated, poor people - deplorables.

Without a graduate degree, a bachelor's degree is just a foot in the door to the HR office so your resume can be put in the 'circular file'.

Who can't afford to waste tens of thousand of dollars and four years to be told that the job you want now requires a Master's Degree?

Twenty years ago I worked with a young guy that was constantly bitching about the work he was doing as a apprentice electrician, always spouting about his BS and the work being beneath him. One day I had enough and told him if the BS stood for Bull Shit he certainly deserved it, then I told him as I had many employees when I was managing, if he wasn’t happy he should GTFO and find a job using his BS and be happy.

My son got his BS in education, got a job teaching and decided he didn’t like it(got transferred from a high income area school with highly motivated kids to a ghetto school), then he spent more time and money acquiring a Masters in English. All that extra time, money and education and he ended up a Tech Writer using the skills he already acquired with his BS🤷🏼‍♂️ Hell he could probably have done just as well with his brains and high school education saving all that money and time.

I successfully managed a multi million dollar business for over twenty years on a high school education and then completely flipped to the plumbing trade for 15 years before the Obama economy and my body took me out. College education is right for the right people, trade school is right for many more and moves people into well paid job without a mountain of debt and a job as a barrista.

Unless the BS is STEM the answer is an unqualified no and some of the STEM stuff is dodgy as well now.

CS is currently dead as a doornail so yes, you are correct on that one. Glad I'm in IT rather than CS, there is some demand there.
