The Supreme Court's decision to allow the administration to pay only partial SNAP benefits during the shutdown gives Donald Trump and the Republicans in Congress a clear road to victory in the shutdown fight now entering its 39th day.

SCOTUS recognized that this is not a separation of powers constitutional issue. It's a political issue, and the Supreme Court tends to avoid intervening in political disputes. The ball is now firmly in the hands of the Democrats, who have gotten themselves into a no-win situation. 

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer tried a delay gambit, offering to reopen the government if the GOP would allow Obamacare subsidies to continue unchanged for a year. Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) was having none of it.

“They’re feeling the heat, and they know that their last proposal was unserious and unrealistic,” Thune said. He referred to the Democrats' offer as a “nonstarter.”

Schumer's "offer" was ludicrous. Republicans offered last month to maintain the Obamacare subsidies in the stopgap Continuing Resolution (CR) proposal that would have funded the government through Nov. 21 (now through Jan. 20), while the two sides negotiated on the subsidies.

The ploy didn't work. The offer of a "clean" CR is still available, and Democrats are only painting themselves into a corner by not accepting it.

The foot in that boot is already starting to hurt.  And Republicans are now questioning their own personal threshold for pain.

I see it as Chuckie has a hold on the PUBS and now that the DEMS have won a few victories he's not going to give in anytime soon.

It is all about disruption and anarchy. Trump was achieving Great things for America and the Democrats could not stand that. They had to find a way to sabotage Trump and the Republicans. A shutdown was the Democrat's only option to stop Trump and to disrupt the massive gains.

I believe even if Trump agreed to everything the Democrats claim to want, Schumer would still keep the shutdown going. The sole purpose of the shutdown is to disrupt Trump from succeeding. It has nothing to do with health care. It is about anarchy. It is about the resistance fighting Trump in any and every way possible. This is why Schumer has said the shutdown will go on forever. He has no intention of ever lifting the shutdown, no matter what Trump and the Republicans offer them.

Trump is right. The only way this will end is to eliminate the filibuster. The Democrats will keep this going into the midterms.

I am at the point where they  can keep their shutdown. Fire the nonessentials.

Is there a way to defund the Democrats?
