Let’s Be Clear, Republicans Would NEVER Get Away With A Shutdown Like This
I & I Editorial Board
October 30, 2025

Last November, voters handed control of Congress to Republicans who pledged to cut taxes and spending. In response, Democrats decided to hold the country hostage because they want to borrow and spend $1.5 trillion on illegal immigrants and well-to-do Obamacare enrollees.

That is the simplest and most honest way to describe what has been going on since Oct. 1. But you’d hardly know it, given the way the shutdown is talked about.

The Senate has had a chance 13 times to vote on a “continuing resolution” that would keep the government operating while lawmakers debate future spending bills, including the Democrats’ wish list.

And 13 times, Senate Democrats filibustered the bill because they don’t want a debate. They want a concession.

Yet time after time, Democrats are allowed to go on news programs and spout nonsense about how this is the Republicans’ fault.

Well, try to imagine Republicans doing the same.

I say keep putting up clean spending bills for votes in the US Senate.

Make them vote to keep the Government closed every day, dominate the political news cycle.

Make the Dems explain to the public what they object to in the clean spending bills and explain why its objectionable.

I don't think they want the public to know what they are really fighting for, and would prefer to make a back alley deal in a back smoke filled room.

This is Schumer's Shutdown.  Make him answer for it every day and every newscycle.  Keep him on defense.  Keep him on the ropes.  Keep kicking him while he is down so he doesn't have a chance to get back up.

Encourage conservative media to use big bold letters to advertise it as "Schumer's Shutdown" instead of 'Government Shutdown'.  Pin the shutdown to Schumer like pinning a tail on a jack ass.  Make him sweat.

I don't believe you're going to shame the d-communists out of this one.
Their numbers are too high, and they're more radicalized than ever.

They WANT to see SNAP benefits run out.
They WANT to see food riots.
They WANT to see the administration put down the rioters.
They KNOW that if it really gets that far, the Senate Pubbies are gonna go wobbly.

I'm going to say it again:
There's one way out for the Republicans:
That's to use the nuclear option, and suitably amend (I didn't say "toss completely", just "amend") the filibuster rule so that debate will automatically be limited on funding bills after a certain number of votes have been called. Say, 10 votes, after which there will be a fixed period of debate, say 16 hours, and after which cloture will be automatic and a final vote will be called and tallied. And one other thing: this final vote will consist of a majority of members PRESENT, no quorum required. That way the d-communist Senators can't run away and prevent a vote based on lack of a quorum.

Do this, and things will get settled quickly.

Remember where and from whom you saw this resolution posted first...

A much simpler idea would to change the current filibuster rule from 60 Senators to three-fifths present.  If the Dems want to filibuster, then they're gonna have to show up on the floor and debate.  There would have to be at least 34 of them on the Senate floor to block 51 Republicans from a vote.  The second one of them leaves, call cloture, and see it passed since Democrats would no longer have that 40% of those present.

Imagine that!  Forcing Senators to actually show up and do their jobs.  This current filibuster bullshit of simply blocking a vote by not showing up is ludicrous.  Make them do it like they did in the 50s and 60s when they were giving 10-hr speeches to block Civil Rights legislation.
If a political party does not have its foundation in the determination to advance a cause that is right and that is moral, then it is not a political party; it is merely a conspiracy to seize power.     -Dwight Eisenhower-

"The [U.S.] Constitution is a limitation on the government, not on private individuals ... it does not prescribe the conduct of private individuals, only the conduct of the government ... it is not a charter for government power, but a charter of the citizen's protection against the government."     -Ayn Rand-
