Brookhaven police have apprehended a 54-year-old dump truck driver, Omar Ali of Mableton, after he allegedly struck and killed a young woman at a crosswalk on Tuesday afternoon. The incident took place around 12:06 p.m. at the intersection of Clairmont Road and Dresden Drive where Ali, while turning right, is accused of failing to yield to the 20-year-old pedestrian who had the right of way, FOX 5 Atlanta reports.

Witnesses and nearby traffic camera footage revealed that the victim was lawfully crossing the street when she was hit, and despite initially fleeing the scene, Ali returned approximately 20 minutes later and was arrested, according to Brookhaven Police; despite this tragic occurrence and the driver's subsequent arrest, the identity of the young woman has not yet been disclosed by authorities. Ali is facing serious charges including vehicular homicide, felony hit-and-run, and failure to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk, the investigation by Brookhaven Police remains ongoing as they piece together the circumstances leading up to the unfortunate event.  .  .  .

If a political party does not have its foundation in the determination to advance a cause that is right and that is moral, then it is not a political party; it is merely a conspiracy to seize power.     -Dwight Eisenhower-

"The [U.S.] Constitution is a limitation on the government, not on private individuals ... it does not prescribe the conduct of private individuals, only the conduct of the government ... it is not a charter for government power, but a charter of the citizen's protection against the government."     -Ayn Rand-
