The fact the USS Arizona still leaks oil today, tells you how much flammable material is on war ships. :pondering:

The Navy has also forgotten basic damage control, and the ship was littered with flammable debris and substances during its maintenance.  And, oh yeah, the local fire departments had trouble responding because of Navy bureaucracy.

I watched the video in the OP.  Two hours to get the first suppression agents on the fire? Unfriggingbelievable.

(Seems they could have run a 3" supply line from the pier into the ship and used a Y to split it into a couple of 1 1/2" attack lines and got water on it much faster.)

The Navy used to have some great firefighters, and after the USS Forrestal fire, I thought fire training was practically part of boot camp. (Explosions on deck had incapacitated many of the dedicated firefighting crew, and the Navy's answer going forward was to train all hands in basic firefighting techniques so they didn't get caught in that bind again).

What happened?
