President Donald Trump directed Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth to deploy “all necessary troops” to Portland, Oregon, after fiery anti-ICE protests rocked the city this week.

The president said he’s authorizing “full force, if necessary” to protect the city and the ICE facilities there from attacks and confrontations by left-wing “domestic terrorists.”

“At the request of Secretary of Homeland Security, Kristi Noem, I am directing Secretary of War, Pete Hegseth, to provide all necessary Troops to protect War ravaged Portland, and any of our ICE Facilities under siege from attack by Antifa, and other domestic terrorists. I am also authorizing Full Force, if necessary,” he posted on Truth Social.

Trump said he deployed the troops at DHS Secretary Kristi Noem’s request.

The order comes after attacks on ICE agents prompted Attorney General Pam Bondi to deploy agents from the Department of Justice to protect ICE facilities.

“At my direction, I am deploying DOJ agents to ICE facilities—and wherever ICE comes under siege—to safeguard federal agents, protect federal property, and immediately arrest all individuals engaged in any federal crime,” Bondi said in a post on X.

A shooting at a Dallas ICE field office this week raised awareness to the threats facing the immigration officers. The attack killed a detainee and left two others in critical condition.
Noem blamed the attack on “hateful rhetoric.”

“People don’t write anti-ICE messages on ammunition and open fire on law enforcement facilities because they like ICE. This violence is directly fueled by hateful rhetoric. It must end now,” she wrote on X earlier this week.

The president and other Republicans have criticized members of the “radical left” for encouraging, carrying out, and celebrating political violence.

Trump suggested on Thursday that he may intervene in Portland.

WASHINGTON — President Trump ordered the Department of War to dispatch “all necessary” troops to Portland, Oregon, to secure the city and safeguard Immigration and Customs Enforcement personnel, he said Saturday.

Trump also confirmed he is “authorizing Full Force, if necessary,” amid a spate of daily protests against the federal ICE detention facility in Portland that have intensified since June.

“At the request of Secretary of Homeland Security, Kristi Noem, I am directing Secretary of War, Pete Hegseth, to provide all necessary Troops to protect War ravaged Portland, and any of our ICE Facilities under siege from attack by Antifa, and other domestic terrorists,” Trump declared on Truth Social.

The president’s announcement comes on the heels of multiple high-profile attacks against ICE officers and steps announced by US Attorney General Pam Bondi to crack down on those who attack federal personnel.

Portland has long been a hotbed of Antifa activities. Rioters there have repeatedly “attacked and laid siege” to the ICE facility in Portland, according to the Department of Homeland Security.

This includes instances in which a sickos directed a laser beam into the eyes of an ICE officer, threw a smoke grenade at multiple officers, and tried to damage equipment at the facility, per the DHS.

(Bloomberg) -- President Donald Trump ordered the military to be deployed to Portland, Oregon, to quell protests over his immigration policy, escalating his campaign against demonstrators opposing his policies.

“At the request of Secretary of Homeland Security, Kristi Noem, I am directing Secretary of War, Pete Hegseth, to provide all necessary Troops to protect War ravaged Portland, and any of our ICE Facilities under siege from attack by Antifa, and other domestic terrorists,” Trump said Saturday in a post on Truth Social. “I am also authorizing Full Force, if necessary.”
 
Deployments in Portland would mark the fourth US city where Trump has sent National Guard troops for duty, assigning them to assist immigration officers, clean up streets and help fight local crime. National Guard troops have been deployed to Los Angeles, Washington, DC, and Memphis.

Saturday’s post wasn’t specific about whether he was referring to Guard troops or regular military. Governors control each state’s National Guard. Trump was able to federalize Guard troops in DC because of its status as a federal district. California Governor Gavin Newsom successfully challenged Trump’s deployment of Guard troops in his state, but the White House is appealing the federal court ruling.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — President Donald Trump said Saturday he will send troops to Portland, Oregon, “authorizing Full Force, if necessary” to handle “domestic terrorists” as he expands his controversial deployments to more American cities.

He made the announcement on social media, writing that he was directing the Department of Defense to “provide all necessary Troops to protect War ravaged Portland.” Trump said the decision was necessary to protect U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement facilities, which he described as “under siege from attack by Antifa, and other domestic terrorists.”

The White House did not immediately respond to a request for details on Trump’s announcement, such as a timeline for the deployment or what troops would be involved.

Portland’s mayor, Democrat Keith Wilson, said there was no need for troops in his city. “Our nation has a long memory of acts of oppression, and the president will not find lawlessness or violence here unless he plans to perpetrate it,” he said. ...

President Donald Trump announced Saturday morning that he had authorized any force necessary against far-left mobs who have been attacking federal facilities and agents in the city of Portland for several weeks.

The announcement comes after widespread outrage among Trump voters over continued assaults on federal facilities across the nation, despite the fact that the president signed an executive order aimed at dismantling left-wing terrorist networks just a day before. Portland has long been an epicenter of left-wing violence, which has continued in the president’s second term.

Footage obtained by on-the-ground reporter Kate Daviscourt indicates that organized terror cells have repeatedly attacked federal facilities in the west coast city since President Trump returned to the White House this past January. On Saturday morning, the president directed War Secretary Pete Hegseth to deploy military assets to the city in order to protect federal agents.

Sen. Ron Wyden (D-Ore.) told President Trump that troops are not welcome in Portland, Ore., after the president announced on Saturday he is sending reinforcements to protect the city and the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facilities that he said are “under siege.”

The senior senator from Oregon pushed back on that assertion and posted a video of the ICE facility that showed a peaceful environment devoid of rioting.

“Taken just a few minutes ago outside the ICE facility in Portland that Trump claims is under siege,” Wyden said in a post on the social platform X, along with a 1-minute video of the facility.

“My message to Donald Trump is this: we don’t need you here,” he continued.

“Stay the hell out of our city.”

Sorry Wyden, but you are not the king of an independent shithole called Oregon, it is an AMERICAN state and Portland is an an AMERICAN city where all Americans should be safe from terrorists and terrorism. Since you and your comrades can’t and won’t enforce the laws of your state and allow agents of the federal governmentt. to be put at risk and assaulted, then I guess the FEDS will just have to do your job. Hundreds of Oregon National Guard troops have been called up following President Trump saying over the weekend that he was sending troops to Portland, the state’s attorney general said.

In a post on the social platform X Sunday, Oregon Attorney General Dan Rayfield (D) said that “the Secretary of Defense sent a memo to Governor Tina Kotek authorizing 200 members of the Oregon National Guard to perform federal functions for 60 days.”

“Oregon communities are stable, and our local officials have been clear: we have the capacity to manage public safety without federal interference,” Rayfield added later.

“Sending in 200 National Guard troops to guard a single building is not normal. If you had a concern about safety at your own home, you’d make a few calls and fill the gaps — not call in an army.”

The Pentagon in a statement obtained by NewsNation on Monday confirmed the deployment.

“On Sept. 28, 2025, at the direction of the President, Secretary of War Pete Hegseth informed the Adjutant General of the Oregon National Guard that 200 members of the Oregon National Guard will be called into Federal service immediately for a period of 60 days to protect U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and other U.S. Government personnel who are performing Federal functions, including the enforcement of Federal law, and to protect Federal property in Oregon,” it said.

“The President called forth these 200 Guardsmen to deter rampant lawlessness within Portland and to enable Federal law-enforcement officers to safely conduct their duties. These Guardsmen, while Federalized, will be under the command and control of the Commander of U.S. Northern Command.”
