Illinois Woman Opens Fire During Alleged Home Invasion

A woman outside of Chicago reportedly shot and killed a man who allegedly broke into her home while she hid with her baby, according to local authorities. Joliet police reported clear signs of forced entry and found the unresponsive man on the second floor with an apparent gunshot wound to the head. The woman reportedly called 911 after firing the shot, and officers arrived to find the suspect dead at the scene.
Investigators are working with the Will County Coroner’s Office to confirm the man’s identity and determine the official cause of death.
WBBM-TV reported, “A preliminary investigation indicated the woman and her child hid in a bedroom closet, and she armed herself after hearing someone forcibly entering the home.”
Officers found signs of forced entry at a Hadrian Drive home and discovered an unresponsive man on the second floor. Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene.
