Democrat Senator Flips, Smacks Down NYT Hit Piece Against Trump

U.S. Senator John Fetterman (D-PA) issued a massive smackdown on a recent hit piece from the New York Times, which seemingly stands against President Donald Trump and his administration’s power to use violent, deadly force against suspected drug smugglers.

“Overdosing takes 100,000+ American lives every year. Cartels wage this war against our nation everyday. Maybe it’s time for our nation to push back and hold the cartels fully accountable,” Fetterman wrote on social media platform X.

“By ordering the U.S. military to summarily kill a group of people aboard what he said was a drug-smuggling boat, President Trump used the military in a way that had no clear legal precedent or basis, according to specialists in the laws of war and executive power,” the piece, written by NYT contributor Charlie Savage, says.

However, conservative lawmakers and political experts say that the designation of these individuals and the organizations they work for as terrorists makes them legitimate targets for the U.S. military.

The group of drug smugglers that was killed earlier this week belonged to a Venezuelan gang known as Tren de Aragua, which has been labeled as “narcoterrorists.”
