IMHO, not as bad as some of his spaces, but I like contrasts. He has always been heavy on the gold trim for my taste.

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

Too much gold.  Looks like Louis XIV's throne room at Versailles.

I agree, but at least: 1) he paid for it and we didn't; 2) no one actually is hurt by his decorating choices, no matter how much screaming we hear from the left.

I always thought it was his first wife who pushed all the gold decor in his properties. Maybe it was he.

xIf the President and First Lady decorated to suit the tastes of the common folk here, the Oval Office would look like the home of Jed Clampett and the Beverly Hillbillies.

All it needs is Liberace's gold-leafed Blüthner grand piano.

Agreed. Not my taste, either.

But we've also had Presidents (Jimmy Carter, for one) who stripped it down until it could have been a conference room at the local Quality Inn....

I love it!

There is nothing wrong with embracing elegance. The office of the President of the greatest country on earth should be eye catching not basic.

PDJT’s Oval Office decor is not to my taste. Too gilded and busy. I approve of how he conducts business there, however.

Only Carter would have the sofas back-to-back.

Absolutely agree!

Trump gave the Oval Office a gilded makeover – and covered the cost himself
The president said the Oval Office 'needed a little life'

Behind the Resolute Desk, Trump added gold curtains and a display of flags,
including those representing the U.S. military’s sister services.

Gold trim was added to details along the ceiling and doorways. Even the cherubs
inside the door frames were given a golden makeover.
