Not only is this weird, but just think that the pioneer of America's oil industry is John D Rockefeller, who setup this trust, is funding the suit.
It seems it is the one who should make any payments to so-called victims, if any payments are ever made.

A First-Of-Its-Kind Lawsuit Seeks Wrongful Death Climate Damages From Oil Companies. Sealed Court Docs Show a Rockefeller-Funded Green Group Is Steering It.
The case could lead to more wrongful death and even criminal homicide cases against oil companies

A first-of-its-kind lawsuit seeks to compel oil companies to pay wrongful death damages by holding them responsible for climate change. Sealed court filings obtained by the Washington Free Beacon show a Rockefeller-funded green group is working on that suit behind the scenes.

Misti Leon filed the pioneering complaint in Washington state court on May 29, accusing seven oil companies of being responsible for the 2021 heat-wave death of her mother. Two days earlier, Leon quietly appointed climate activist and nonprofit leader Sarah Myhre to serve as the agent for her deceased mother's estate, according to sealed court filings obtained by the Free Beacon. Myhre, who isn't a lawyer, will be responsible for handling the estate's papers as the case proceeds.

The US Congress needs to indemnify American energy companies from nuisance Climate Change lawsuits, like they indemnified gun manufacturers.

Any wrongful death lawsuits should require direct causation and direct chain of liability.

Otherwise, whackos will sue every American industry out of business.

Is it a stretch to think these nuts would eventually try to put the beef industry and ranchers out of business?

Anyone and anything that farts could be held liable for deaths allegedly caused by Climate Change.

These anti-capitalist interests want to weaponize the legal system to eliminate private enterprise and private property, to the benefit of America's competitors and enemies.

This is the kind of nonsense you'd see on Law & Order, where Jack McCoy would file murder charges against the manufacturers of whatever weapon may have been used by an entirely different individual who actually committed the crime. What's next, suing the mother of an oil company CEO for ever having given birth to him?

Hmmm, I could see charging Obama's mom for birthing a Nigerian.

I claim credit for being the first person in America to promote the concept of "right to extract and use energy" legislation. Here's an older post of mine:
=================================
It's time for the red states to start enacting "Right to Energy Use" laws.

That is to say, an entirely new legal concept that needs to be codified into written law:
The right to extract and use natural energy resources for human needs:
- right to extract and use coal for power generation, heating, and other uses as may be required
- right to extract and refine petroleum for motor fuels
- right to extract and refine petroleum into products intended for industrial and other uses
- right to extract and use natural gas for heating, power generation and industrial and agricultural uses
- such rights to extend to both individuals and corporations
- etc.

Again, if we don't take the initiative to enact such laws FIRST, the dem-communists and greenunists will enact laws to BAN such usage.

  • I was a "conspiracy theorist". Now I'm just right.
The real flaw in this is that oil companies produce and refine oil.

The vast majority of that product is sold to others, who use it as they will, most of it burned in one way or another.

It is the consumers, not the producers who burn the products of the industry (if they don't pave roads, make plastics or pharmaceuticals of it).

I would wager more lives have been saved by using antibiotics in a petroleum jelly base to keep small wounds from becoming life-threatening infections than have been lost by climate impacts directly attributable to oil companies actually using their own products.

But in either case, the link must be proven, and in the former it exists, in the latter, it is tenuous at best.

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.
