TOPEKA — Secretary of State Scott Schwab said after a White House visit that federal officials should authorize use of Social Security and immigration information to assist state and local election administrators with updating of voter registration lists.
Schwab, a candidate for the Kansas Republican Party’s nomination for governor in 2026, said the goal was to combine the Social Security Administration’s death index with U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services data to identify people who were deceased or noncitizens and not eligible to vote.
“No previous administration has taken the initiative to bring this tool to the states,” Schwab said.
He said a visit by state election officials at the White House included a commitment from the administration of President Donald Trump to improve election security information sharing among federal and state officials.
