Debate sparked after Hopewell police post letter regarding 'suspicious activity'
WTAE Updated: 8:36 PM EDT Jul 9, 2025
Chandi Chapman, Anchor/Reporter
HOPEWELL TOWNSHIP, Pa. — Police in Hopewell Township have issued a letter alerting the community of three incidents they are calling suspicious. The letter has now sparked concern and debate in the community.

A letter posted on social media by Hopewell Township Police said that there have been three incidents reported "regarding suspicious activities involving men that appear to be, or were reported as, Middle Eastern or of Hispanic ethnicity."

The department said the incidents have been reported in the Beaver County area within the last eight days, saying they've occurred at the following three churches: New Bethlehem Church in Independence Township, Genesis Church in Hopewell, and Ridge Point Church in Brighton Township.

Officials said a report from Ridge Point Church stated that a "Middle Eastern man" who claimed he was from Israel and was looking for a new mosque left an electric bike battery on one of the pews of the church.

At New Bethlehem, "four men wearing hijabs" were said to have been seen inside a vehicle in the church's parking lot, appearing to look at their cellphones.

In Hopewell, the post by police read, a "Middle Eastern/Hispanic male was caught off guard in the parking lot by a member who left early, sat in his car for five minutes, then left" in a vehicle bearing an Ohio license plate.  ...

What started as a routine traffic stop Sunday morning in Lexington, Kentucky, turned into a tragic multi-scene shooting.

A Kentucky State Trooper was shot after pulling over a vehicle flagged by a license plate reader near the airport. The suspect then carjacked a vehicle and drove to Richmond Road Baptist Church, where he opened fire on parishioners.

Two women, Beverly Gumm (72) and Christina Combs (32), were killed. Two men were also injured—one critically. The suspect, believed to have had a personal connection to people at the church, was shot and killed by law enforcement at the scene.

The wounded trooper is stable. The investigation is ongoing.
There are still more questions than answers about the motive—but this much is clear: officers ran toward chaos and did what had to be done to stop further loss of life.

We stand with the families of those lost. And we stand with every officer who suits up not knowing what the day will bring.

Yesterday, a radical pro-Palestinian Islamist and convicted felon, who was let loose on the streets on probation, attacked a Church here in Kentucky and murdered two people. Enough pandering to violent criminals - time to get tough and put these monsters where they belong.

Guy House, the 47-year-old gunman who was killed by authorities after he fatally shot a mother and daughter at Richmond Baptist Church in Lexington, Kentucky, on Sunday, was a caring and beloved rapper known as HonKy Kong, who family and friends believe had a mental breakdown because he was not allowed to see his daughter.

Scores of House’s more than 9,000 followers on Facebook expressed shock and sadness in the wake of his death and attack on the church. House killed Beverly Gumm, 72, and her 32-year-old daughter, Christina Combs, after he shot and injured a Kentucky State Police trooper at the Blue Grass Airport.

He also shot Gumm’s husband and longtime pastor of the church, Jerry Gumm, and Combs’ husband, Randy Combs. Both men were reportedly in critical but stable condition.  ...

“I just can’t believe you’r[e] gone. I’m sitting here trying my best not to cry because ya boy Brayden will lose his mind. We had the best childhood together. You was a rapper then and grew up being one. I am shook. I don’t even know what to say, think, or feel. This crushed the hell outta me,” House’s cousin Kim Taulbee wrote on his Facebook page on Sunday. ...

House reportedly had a lengthy criminal history and had previously been violent toward law enforcement. He was only released from probation in January, according to court records.

House was due in court for a domestic violence hearing on Monday, according to The Lexington Herald Leader, adding that he also violated probation last year by testing positive for methamphetamine.

House reportedly went into the church looking for the mother of his child, who was not in the church at the time. Instead, he killed the woman's mother (Gumm) and sister (Combs). ...

What was the Muslim costume all about, I wonder? At first, it was reported he was a convert.
More on his lengthy criminal history.
