Allegedly killed by
Bonifilio Velazquez
Bonifilio Velazquez, a unauthorized Guatamalan alien illegally living in the U.S. was arrested for the August 30, 2014 deaths of Diann Jones, Arnette Chandler, and A'Janae Jones. Since Velazquez's arrest, he has been charged with 3 counts of involuntary manslaughter and drunk driving.
Diann Jones and the other victims were returning home from a family reunion when Velazquez's vehicle hit their vehicle head-on, killing all three victims. Authorities allege that Velazquez was intoxicated at the time of the crash.
The Guatemalan national reportedly had prior run-ins with local law enforcement, including being guilty of driving without a license three to four times. Velazquez also had a prior unspecified immigration violation on his record, although he has been living in the U.S. illegally for 17 years.
Velazquez's attorney has filed a motion to suppress all evidence claiming the defendant was not read his Miranda rights. A November 10, 2014 hearing has been scheduled because Velazquez was hospitalized after being assaulted by other inmates on September 1.
OJJPAC note: It apparently took the death of three people to get the Obama administration to have the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency to put an immigration hold on Velazquez.
