AB Hernandez, a biological male high school track and field athlete who “identifies” as a girl, is continuing to send shockwaves throughout the sports world and its political crossover.
You might already be familiar with Hernandez because I’ve blogged about the trans athlete in the past, but we’ve got an update as Hernandez finished first place in each the triple jump and long jump events that took place at the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) Southern Section Masters Meet recently. With this being the case, Hernandez has reportedly punched tickets into the state championships for both categories. A junior out of Jurupa Valley High School, which is east of Los Angeles, Hernandez also had a fourth-place finish in the high jump competition, nearly qualifying for a third state finals event. The transgender only missed that opportunity by one spot.
Parents at the meet were understandably livid, with one mother furiously confronting Hernandez’s mom and asking why her son was both allowed and encouraged to compete.
