Personally I think he was just doing it to get libtards head to explode.

That is probably true but he upset a lot of people who didn't deserve to be upsetted.

Libtards don't believe in God nor religion, so they wouldn't be offended.  They'd feign indignation just to score points in the Press.

It would offend Catholic conservatives.

Yeah but here's the thing, why are you ok with the President trolling?

Trump is not just trolling here. He is trolling a group that gave him 56 percent of their votes. Among Catholic conservatives (who would most revere the papacy), it is most likely a much higher percentage.

Your point-of-view would normally describe upsetting a demographic who might "reelect" him.

He's not running again.

That said, that group isn't going to drift to the godless Democrats of today.  Or the Democrats running in 2028 for that matter...once the scales are set.

OK, now I see. Sorry I failed to understand this critical point that he owes nothing to people who supported him, and in fact should indulge his adolescent humor by insulting their religion. The man is entitled. Got it.

A fake picture of a man in clerical garb is hardly an insult to the religion itself. It's just a costume. And he isn't actually wearing the costume, at that. How is that insulting? I

This ain't my gig. I really don't care.

I DO wonder if Biden or Obama or Clinton had donned these robes, would they be defended like-in-kind? I think it would cause a sh*t-hemmorage, I do believe.

Other than that, all I got is this:

BTW...is being reported today that Pres. Trump claims he had nothing to do with the meme being posted.

Also, reported that Cardinal Timothy Dolan agrees with you.

I don't care, either. And I'm not defending him (already having said it was tacky and unnecessary). Had Obama posted a fake picture of himself in papal garb (NOTE: Trump did not don the robe) I would have called it tacky and unnecessary, as well.

Whether he actually donned the garb or approved an AI generated picture depicting it is a distinction without a difference, IMHO.  :shrug:

Are you a Catholic?

Yes I am.  Altar Boy in Parochial elementary school - Sisters of Mercy...High School - Franciscan priests...College - Jesuit priests.

So now you believe that Trump is infallible?

@massadvj

How in the heck do you get from asking someone if they're Catholic to inferring that one believes Trump is infallible?  Seriously, this is the kind of irrational crap that I see from Democrats.  (See logical fallacies:  Red herring).

Nowhere did @DCPatriot even remotely suggest that Trump is infallible.  Nowhere.

@massadvj

What is the source of that "sacred thing" quote?  I would like to see the Catholic source material that defines the Pope as a "sacred thing".  Thanks in advance.

https://www.catholic.com/tract/what-do-catholics-believe-about-the-pope

@massadvj

Your link does not support your claim.  The word 'sacred' does not appear anywhere in that link, much less the phrase "sacred thing" which you posted in quotes.  In other words, you made it up.

Exactly.. @massadvj is an old and valued friend here at TBR and I won't have him disparaged for his beliefs or how he feels about this. I too was very upset when this first broke. I know Trump didn't create this image I only wish he didn't post it.

I'll back off.  No more questions about what the Catholic Church believes or inquiries about popes.  I think the AI image was a profoundly stupid idea, but I'm not willing to take up an offense over it.

@massadvj , no need to respond to my questions about your statements.  I am no longer curious.

It's a damned slippery slope.

You ever hear the phrase " weak men create hard times"?
You ever hear the phrase "it's ok when we do it"?
