It's the Eggs, Stupid
By Stephen Helgesen

James Carville's phrase, which he used during the 1992 Clinton presidential campaign, "It's the economy, stupid" may have been the right one for the time, but the last few years of soaring consumer prices have generated a need for a new yardstick to measure just how our economy is doing.

Welcome to the new standard that has now replaced the ubiquitous gallon of unleaded gasoline. Enter the farm fresh chicken egg – the new preferred way to tell how well or poorly we're doing as a nation!

Unless you've been marooned on a desert island or mountain-climbing without the Internet, you cannot help but have noticed that the ordinary chicken egg has pushed the gallon of gas and the pound of ground beef off the field of contenders for the top economic pain barometer.

The supermarket has overtaken the filling station where we are now spending the lion's share of our disposable income, especially if we have large families.

After the fall of the Berlin Wall, the price of eggs was an important economic barometer for Polish economists as Poland privatized its economy.

How Egg Prices Became the Symbol of Poland's Successful Transition to Freedom
In the chaotic early days of Poland's "shock therapy," free market reformers measured their success by the falling price of this one basic commodity.

The fall of the Berlin Wall in November 1989 was the dramatic event that marked the fall of European communism. The first sign that freedom was actually working in the former Soviet Bloc would prove to be a little more mundane: the falling price of Polish Eggs. ...

Seventeen Techniques for Truth Suppression

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

I still have not seen a change in price in eggs.

Yesterday, I drove by and noticed a gallon of gas went from $2.79 on election day to #2.73, but that is the first I have seen any decline in gas since the election.

In regard to ground beef, the price is higher than ever.  Ground beef was $6.99 the other day in Publix.  I see no decline in price.

IMHO, prices are not going down for this consumer.  But I believe in time, the president's strategies will pay off for Americans.  People need to have more patience.  The damage done by Biden combined with the abuses that have existed for decades are not undone in 100 days.  I am confident that come 2026, we will begin to notice real changes, meaningful changes that benefit most in our society.

our local chicken farmers say the cost of feed is still going up which in turn keeps egg prices higher than need be.
