After the last few years of incompetence by leftist governments around the World, we were finally poised for some change.

But Trump's threats are giving the Left a new life they never should have gotten.

Do you think the election would’ve had similar results had Justin Trudeau not resigned? I’m not familiar with how your electoral process works in Canada.
I have little interest in streamlining government or in making it more efficient, for I mean to reduce its size. I do not undertake to promote welfare, for I propose to extend freedom. My aim is not to pass laws, but to repeal them.

Very interesting question!

Trudeau was really despised, so I don't think he'd have won, even with Trump as a foil - Conservatives probably would have won in that case. And they were on course for that, until Trump declared economic war on Canada.

Our "Parliamentary democracy" basically means a Political Party is elected to be the Government, so until the next election, the Party stays in power ... that's why Carney could replace Trudeau without a federal election being required.

However, the Liberals were elected last in 2021, and they legally have to call an election within 5 years. Under our system, the Government still has the power to call that election at any time they choose (no fixed election dates, like there is in the US), so Carney took advantage of the current Trump-hatred and won.

The CPC actually did better than any time since 1988.  They also gained 24 seats.  It just wasn't enough, because most of the progressives united with the LPC in response to the dispute with the States.

Gin up that bogeyman Carney.

You can bet he will... And then Tumpy will open his pie hole again and only make it worse. Here we go.

That's right.
