Dick Durbin, No. 2 Senate Democrat, won't seek re-election
Durbin was first elected to the Senate in 1996

Sen. Dick Durbin, D- Ill., the Senate Democratic whip and the top Democrat on the Judiciary Committee, has announced he will not seek re-election in 2026.

Durbin, who was first elected to the Senate in 1996, made the announcement in a video message on X Wednesday.

"The decision of whether to run for re-election has not been easy," Durbin said.

"I truly love the job of being a United States Senator. But in my heart, I know it’s time to pass the torch. So, I am announcing today that I will not be seeking re-election at the end of my term."

Durbin announces Senate retirement, clearing way for leadership shake-up
 
Senate Minority Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL) will not run for a sixth term in the Senate, clearing the way for a younger crop of Democrats to compete for his seat.

Durbin, 80, announced Wednesday that he will retire from the Senate in 2026. The decision had been expected, with the senator raising a paltry 43,000 in the first quarter. But his announcement means that Democrats can now run openly for one of Illiniois’s two Senate seats.
 
It also clears the way for a rare leadership shake-up in the Senate, where Durbin has been the Democratic whip for two decades.

"The decision of whether to run for re-election has not been easy. I truly love the job of being a United States Senator. But in my heart, I know it’s time to pass the torch," Durbin said in a statement on X. "So, I am announcing today that I will not be seeking re-election at the end of my term.

He's beating feet and calling it "retiring."  He's getting out before he's investigated for corruption.  I wonder if he cut a deal with Pam Bondi?  His retirement for no investigations. :pondering:

And if Bondi made a deal with this POS, then she should be terminated.  If there is evidence of criminal activity by this turd, or any turd in Congress, regardless of party, I want them prosecuted to the full maximum of the law.

As someone posted here on one of the threads, Bondi has accomplished zilch since she has been made AG.  ZERO INDICTMENTS!  Perhaps we will have four years like Obama where no one gets indicted.

Well, ok.
But keep in mind that whoever is elected in his stead is going to be far WORSE.
(I composed this before I read Bigun's reply above, but posting anyway!)
