Michelle Obama breaks her silence on Barack divorce rumors

Former first lady Michelle Obama has hit back at rumors she and husband Barack are headed for divorce, blaming the rampant speculation on her decision to exercise her newfound independence.

The 61-year-old broke her silence on Sophia Bush’s “Work in Progress” podcast Wednesday after the Obamas were dogged by gossip that their marriage was on the rocks when she opted to skip several high-profile events earlier this year — including President Trump’s inauguration.

“The interesting thing is that, when I say ‘no,’ for the most part people are like, ‘I get it, and I’m OK,’” the mom of two said of her decision to turn down key invitations. ...

Michelle scoffed at widespread speculation they’d had called it quits on their three-decade union, noting that it was unbelievable to some that she could possibly be “a grown woman just making a set of decisions for herself.” ...

LOS ANGELES — Michelle Obama and her brother Craig Robinson talked dating on their joint podcast Wednesday where he revealed he never anticipated the Obamas staying together.  ...

“Mich starts to date Barack, and we don’t know who this guy is. We’re just like, ‘Barack? Who’s got a name like Barack?’” Robinson said. “I’m thinking to myself, it’s gonna last like about a month like most of your relationships did.”  ...

While he didn’t elaborate as to why he thought that of the couple who has now been together over 30 years, he did say he helped do the “dirty work” to make sure Barack was a keeper.

Robinson and Obama’s father used to tell them “you could learn a lot about a person by how they played a game of pickup basketball,” so he took Barack out and had a great time.

“This is what I learned, aside from the fact that he’s left-handed so he couldn’t go right at all, most importantly, he was a team player,” Robinson said. “He fit in with the people. So I was able to report back to you, everything was fine and the rest was history.”  ...

I really respect Michelle Obama - but if she wants everyone to stop speculating on her marriage she shouldn’t spend every episode of her podcast telling women we need to expect marriage to be a torturous hellscape with few glimpses of happiness scattered about here and there.
