The hardest thing for me to train into a dog was to come off a kill.
When it's real, they get their blood up and they won't break off. So you have no chance at striking down whatever it is because the dang dog is in the way... And getting chopped up.
My dog Brown got in it with a cougar and was getting all tore up, but I couldn't risk a shot. I finally had to wade into it and put my pistol on the cougar's ear to save the dog. That was a tough run. Stitching your dog's guts back in 30 miles from the blacktop ain't a good day.
Chewy did that better. If I told him to 'break' he'd come off direct and move to heel em, knowing I was coming at em... Until the rifle spoke, and then he was beating feet.

That Chewy... He was a damn good dog.
