Dogs have “extensive and multifarious” environmental impacts, disturbing wildlife, polluting waterways and contributing to carbon emissions, new research has found.

An Australian review of existing studies has argued that “the environmental impact of owned dogs is far greater, more insidious, and more concerning than is generally recognised”.

While the environmental impact of cats is well known, the comparative effect of pet dogs has been poorly acknowledged, the researchers said.

The review, published in the journal Pacific Conservation Biology, highlighted the impacts of the world’s “commonest large carnivore” in killing and disturbing native wildlife, particularly shore birds.

The dog will put herself in the way.
I will act appropriately to defend myself and my family.

And the dog - If possible...
It's a hard spot, but that's what the dog is for - Early warning and to buy you time to get to the guns. Once you're set, if you can, then go to the dog's aid.  :beer:

Yep!

The hardest thing for me to train into a dog was to come off a kill.
When it's real, they get their blood up and they won't break off. So you have no chance at striking down whatever it is because the dang dog is in the way... And getting chopped up.

My dog Brown got in it with a cougar and was getting all tore up, but I couldn't risk a shot. I finally had to wade into it and put my pistol on the cougar's ear to save the dog. That was a tough run. Stitching your dog's guts back in 30 miles from the blacktop ain't a good day.

Chewy did that better. If I told him to 'break' he'd come off direct and move to heel em, knowing I was coming at em... Until the rifle spoke, and then he was beating feet.  :laugh:

That Chewy... He was a damn good dog.  :beer:
