President Donald Trump announced that he asked Rep. Elise Stefanik, R-N.Y., to bow out of contention to be U.S. ambassador to the United Nations.

He cited the House GOP's slim majority, writing on Truth Social, "I have asked Elise, as one of my biggest Allies, to remain in Congress to help me deliver Historic Tax Cuts, GREAT Jobs, Record Economic Growth, a Secure Border, Energy Dominance, Peace Through Strength, and much more, so we can MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN."

"With a very tight Majority, I don’t want to take a chance on anyone else running for Elise’s seat. The people love Elise and, with her, we have nothing to worry about come Election Day. There are others that can do a good job at the United Nations," he said.

Sources told the outlet that House Republicans' razor-thin majority is a major factor in the current considerations, but Fox News Digital was also told that internal politics in Stefanik's home district are at play as well.

New York state's primary structure and the lack of GOP cohesion over choosing a candidate to run in Stefanik's place have led to concerns about a future special election there, two sources familiar with Empire State politics said.

Well that's a pretty crappy kick in the gut to ever loyal Stefanik who thought she was getting a promotion but now gets to go back into the House trenches and the DC ratrace.  Trump should have thought of that before he nominated her.

So why is that on her?  That's the expected normal career for a National level politician, but here we have Trump screwing her over because of his total lack of political foresight.  Several of us predicted this when he started nominating Congress people for administration positions but were assured that he's playing 8-dimension chess and it's no big deal.  So here we are!

But, no worries, it's all fixed now.   

At Stefanik's expense, that is.  Best guess is that she will quietly resent having to go back to Capitol Hill when she was expecting a cozy Park Avenue job debating Europeans at the UN, and as a result, be slightly less loyal to Trump.

The decision stunned some members of House GOP leadership, as well as members of the New York delegation, who were deep in conversations about that special election, according to multiple people familiar with the decision.

Stefanik – who had previously risen to the rank of No. 3 House Republican – forfeited her leadership post last year in order to join Trump’s Cabinet.

And it’s a significant turn for Stefanik, who had taken part in at least one Cabinet meeting and had been taking part in events in her district that local media outlets had billed as a “farewell tour.” While she was sworn in for the 119th Congress, she has had bare bones staffing and no major role on any House committees.

Multiple House Republicans said they were caught off guard by the decision and noted that Johnson and his leadership team have so far had little difficulty maneuvering tough votes on the floor, according to three people familiar with internal discussions.

This is a good move.
Ms. Stefanik is more valuable to the party by (for now) remaining in her seat from Northeastern New York State (Plattsburgh area).

Remember... the NY dem-communists were threatening to postpone any re-election which would have resulted in her taking the UN position... thus possibly upsetting the balance of power in the House.

Again, she did the right thing.

Therein lies the rub...in the expectation that she was headed to the UN Stefanik had already given up her leadership spots to other Republicans who are now refusing to make room for her.  So she has no where to go except to the back bench...Johnson doesn't know what to do with her now since the only thing that matters is her vote.
