Ukraine does need its own nukes to defend from Russia, but developing them would take too much time.

Better to just buy some from Britain or France.

Poland and the Baltic States need them too, Russia is a menace to them also.
FreeRussia is controlled by a small group of anti-free-speech Nazis - no wonder its donations are down!!

The only country that should have nukes is the USA.  Because we know how to use them.

A few nukes would not deter Putin.  He's willing to let a couple of million Russians die to get what he wants.  A couple of nuclear strikes against Russia would just be the cost of doing business - an acceptable loss to achieve a greater goal.

Russia is running to Donald Trump! They want to STOP more than anything.
However, they cannot stop without crashing their entire country.

Russia wants to stop. But they can't. Their entire economy is based on war.
What to do? What to do? I am glad that I do not have to figure this out.

Call Garry Kasparov. We need a big brain in this mess.
You cannot "COEXIST" with people who want to kill you.
If they kill their own with no conscience, there is nothing to stop them from killing you.

IF their economy  is based on war, which has been ongoing, perhaps Trump may find a way otherwise there obviously won't be peace.  Dire situation.

If it wasn't for Putin and his oligarchs, Russia could have a very prosperous, diversified, peaceful modern economy.  It's Putin who is holding back Russia.

Russia could withdraw all regular and irregular forces from Ukraine;s 1991 borders at any time.  He won't accept an unconditional peace.  Putin wants to keep the spoils of his Ukraine Special Operation, and keep Ukraine as a vassal state of Putin's Russia.

Neutral Sweden and Findland chose to join NATO in response to Putin's naked agression in Ukraine and his desire to create USSR 2.0/Warsaw Pact 2.0.

Before 1918, Finland was in personal union with the Russian Empire.  There's nothing to say Putin would not attempt to take it.

Taking Sweden would give Putin a port on the North Sea and a Russian-controlled outlet from the Baltic Sea.  Sweden had been Russia's historical enemy as Russia sought to expand westward to the Baltic Sea.

Putin cannot afford peace because Russia is too corrupt for prosperity to develop.

Putin cannot afford peace because the Russia is too corrupt for prosperity to develop.

This, what you said here was the key threat to Russia if Ukraine were to join NATO and the EU.

Why? Because both organizations have benchmarks for democratic institutions and for a general intolerance of Soviet-style corruption.

Look at the former Eastern Bloc slave states that have joined NATO and the EU. All of them cast off their corrupt Soviet-era institutions and all of them are prospering with economic systems that don't reward hand-picked oligarchs by stealing from common people.

The spectre of a prosperous Ukraine on Russia's border is a threat to Putin. His greatest fear is when the common Russian people see the relative wealth of even wartime Ukraine and instead of wanting to steal it they ask, "Why don't we have this anyway?"

Putin's greatest fear is what Russian dictators have always feared: Liberty and prosperity.
