Democratic lawmakers plotting ways to childishly disrupt Trump's speech to Congress

 President Donald Trump indicated that he will "tell it like it is" Tuesday evening in his address to a joint session of Congress, which will apparently be thematically centered on "the renewal of the American dream."

Rather than heed the popular president or consider his plan to improve the lives of their constituents, deeply unpopular congressional Democrats are reportedly plotting loud and multicolored ways to disrupt Trump's speech.

During the first Trump administration, Democrats wore various costumes to signal which dystopia they chose to believe they were living in.

For instance, various Democratic congresswomen wore white — like the suffragettes of yesteryear who donned the color representing purity — to Trump's first address to Congress in 2017, insinuating that they were somehow living under an oppressive patriarchy along the lines of the Iran-inspired fictional setting in Margaret Atwood's "The Handmaid's Tale." Other Democrats wore decorations signaling solidarity with Planned Parenthood and the American Civil Liberties Union.

 Leftist lawmakers repeated such visual stunts over the course of Trump's first term while also engaging in booing and walkouts.

New Mexico Rep. Teresa Leger Fernández (D) told Time magazine that this time around, elements of the 96-member Democratic Women's Caucus will be wearing pink.

"Women have worn pink in opposition to Trump before, and we will do it again," said Fernández. ...........

A few Democratic members of the U.S. House were planning to hijack President Donald Trump’s speech with a protest of their own, a plan that has been foiled by their party leaders.

Earlier this week, House Minority Leaker Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) and his top lieutenants issued guidance to Democrats instructing them to sit silently during President Donald Trump’s address to Congress on Tuesday night. Instead, they were encouraged to bring members of the public who had been “harmed” by the administration’s activities in the first six weeks, including those among the tens of thousands fired from the federal government.

Many took up the recommendation and were prepared to walk former government bureaucrats onto the floor of the House, where they would have a chance to glare at Trump. To others, that offer wasn’t enough.

A more combative anti-Trump wing of the caucus had planned to disrupt the speech, according to one source that was unhappy with Jeffries’ suggestion for a silent protest.

“The part that we all agree on is that this is not business as usual and we would like to find a way — productively — to express our outrage,” one House Democrat told Axios.

One member suggested to the outlet that they may stand up and exit the chamber during Trump’s speech if he makes mention of particular items or issues they find objectionable. They threatened that any mention of transgender children by Trump would trigger a mass walkout.

Other members said the idea of using noisemaking devices like handclappers during the speech had been floated in recent days.

A number of House Democrats are planning ways they can disrupt President Trump’s address to Congress later tonight, some of which includes outright disruption, according to a report from Axios citing multiple House Democrats.

Senior House Democrats, including Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY), have advised lawmakers to bring guests as a form of protest. The most common idea has been to bring laid off federal workers as part of the party’s opposition to federal layoffs and Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) initiative.

Other lawmakers — particularly those from the progressive win of the party — are reportedly plotting more disruptive measures in defiance of party leadership. This has led to “widespread disagreement” within the party, both inside and outside Congress. “The part that we all agree on is that this is not business as usual and we would like to find a way — productively — to express our outrage,” one House Democrat told Axios.

Some lawmakers have told colleagues that they plan to stand up and walk out when Trump mentions topics they disagree with, such as bans on sex change procedures for minors. “Criticism of transgender kids was brought up as a line in the sand that could trigger members to storm out,” Axios reported, citing one Democrat lawmaker.

A number of Democrats have told colleagues that they plan to bring noisemakers in order to disrupt the president. Others have floated the idea of bringing signs with anti-Trump and anti-Musk messages that could then be held up during the president’s address. Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) previously held up a sign accusing Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of being a “war criminal” when he addressed lawmakers last year.
