Migrant Shelter Faces Crisis as Funding Freeze Hits Sanctuary Cities
Story by Emily Prescott • 21h
The nonprofit Jewish Family Service San Diego (JFS) has announced the suspension of its migrant shelter services due to funding shortages and a decline in asylum-seeking arrivals. In the wake of an executive order signed by President Donald Trump, which aimed to freeze federal funding for immigration services in sanctuary cities, the organization has faced financial uncertainty. Despite being allocated $22 million in funding in September of 2024, JFS has yet to receive any of the funds.
