Trump set his sights on next government target as he moves 'dissolve the leadership' in days

Donald Trump has set his sights on the United States Postal Service as his administration seeks to dismantle and purge bloated federal bureaucracies.

Amid widespread reconfiguration of government agencies led by billionaire Elon Musk and his team at DOGE, the president is considering dissolving the leadership of the Postal Service within days, the Washington Post reported.

It would be the latest in a string of bombshell executive decisions made since he returned to the White House, including laying off thousands of federal employees and removing diversity, equity and inclusion targets as part of his commitment to 'drain the swamp.'

According to the report, Trump is considering absorbing the independent mail agency into his administration, sparking fears widespread layoffs or changes at the top could throw trillions of dollars of e-commerce orders into turmoil.

The publication cited six anonymous sources who claimed Trump was considering signing an executive order this week which would bring the 250-year-old service into the remit of the Commerce Department and Secretary Howard Lutnick.

A White House spokesperson denied any such executive order was planned.

It comes just days after reports Louis DeJoy, the head of the service which employs upwards of 500,000 career workers and another 115,000 non-career workers, intends to step down.

In a Monday letter, Postmaster General DeJoy asked the Postal Service Board of Governors to begin looking for his successor.
