It can be sad and difficult for some people, yes. But private business and industry have experienced this since forever. Entire towns have died because its core industry shut down. Auto plants, steel mills, mining. Government workers expect a position for life with lucrative pensions for their retirement years. It can’t be thus forever. The worm has only begun to turn.
