Senate Expected To Pass Laken Riley Act In Huge Early Win For Trump

President-elect Donald Trump is poised to take office with a significant legislative accomplishment on the horizon, and one that dovetails with his message of increasing federal efforts to deport criminal illegal immigrants.

The U.S. House on Tuesday passed the Laken Riley Act, which would lower the criminal threshold for individuals living in the U.S. illegally and charged with certain nonviolent crimes like theft, burglary, and the sale of narcotics. The bipartisan vote saw 48 Democrats break with 159 of their colleagues and vote with Republicans to advance the measure to the Senate, where it is expected to be taken up by Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) while Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) has privately told his caucus they may begin to engage with Republicans in a bid to pass the bill as long as concessions are made. Schumer’s pronouncement appears to have opened the floodgates within his party as nine Democratic senators signaled on Wednesday that they are supportive of the Laken Riley Act, and their ideological and geographical diversity shows how much damage the shifting sands of immigration have inflicted on their party.

Following Sen. John Fetterman’s (D-PA) announcement on Fox News that he would support the bill, eight other colleagues rushed to join him: Mark Kelly (D-AZ); Jacky Rosen (D-NV); Tammy Duckworth (D-IL); Gary Peters (D-MI); Ruben Gallego (D-AZ); Jon Ossoff (D-GA); John Hickenlooper (D-CO); and Angus King (I-ME), the latter of whom is an independent but caucuses with the Democrats. Republicans need just seven votes from Democrats to reach the 60-vote threshold to break a filibuster, an accomplishment they will have quickly notched if the coalition of Laken Riley newcomers continues to hold. Notable is the geographic swatch of representation: border-state senators like Kelly, Rosen, and Gallego may seem obvious, but more surprising is the support from Duckworth and Hickenlooper, Democrats in reliably blue states that for several years have been pounded by swells of criminal migrants causing mayhem after being bussed north.

DHS Chief Alejandro Mayorkas Seeks to Kill Laken Riley Act

Elizabeth Weibel 12 Jan 2025

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) under Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas is reportedly attempting to kill the Laken Riley Act, a bill that requires the DHS to take illegal aliens who have been charged, arrested, or convicted for crimes such as theft, larceny, burglary or shoplifting into custody.

Pablo Manriquez, a news reporter, wrote in a post on X that “sources at DHS” were informing him that the cost of the Laken Riley Act was estimated to be between $20-$30 billion.

Manriquez added that the DHS sources had cited “a $7 billion figure just for beds BEFORE the mandate’s costs on local law enforcement.”

The post from Manriquez came in response to an article shared by Stef Kight, a political reporter with Axios. In the article from Axios, it was revealed that “federal immigration officials” had warned that they may need to detain roughly 60,000 people and require “billions of dollars and thousands more detention beds.”

So, a head of a federal Executive agency is openly defying the laws of the United States ... sounds like a persecutable offiense if you can make up a charge that fits.

House passes bill targeting DEPORTATION of illegal immigrants convicted of violent crimes against women and children
01/20/2025 // Laura Harris // 340 Views

The U.S. House of Representatives passed HR 30, which would make individuals convicted of severe crimes against women and children inadmissible to the U.S. and subject to deportation.

The bill, dubbed the Preventing Violence Against Women by Illegal Aliens Act, includes provisions for deportation for individuals convicted of crimes such as domestic violence, stalking, child abuse, sexual offenses and violating protection orders.

The bill, introduced by Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC), passed with a 274-145 vote on Jan. 16, with some surprising Democratic support.

Democrats who opposed the bill viewed it as demonizing immigrants, while supporters, including Rep. Tom McClintock (R-CA), argued that it was necessary to protect women and children.

The legislation has sparked a heated debate in Congress, with Democrats accusing Republicans of fearmongering and Republicans questioning Democrats' stance on protecting women.

So democrats think illegal aliens should have pre-emptive pardons like so many in the Biden cesspool.  Clearly, they are more concerned about the reputations of rapists, thieves, and murders than they are in the physical safety of women and children in this country. :im waiting:

Senate Democrats boil over Laken Riley missteps

The Laken Riley Act is roiling the Senate Democratic Conference, as senators believe their party bungled immigration and border security in 2024 but aren’t happy about the swift passage of a bill they view as terrible policy. Democratic critics of the bill believe the rush to pass it is a political overreaction from Democratic colleagues scrambling to protect themselves on those issues.

Some Democratic senators are venting frustration about Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) giving a green light to politically vulnerable colleagues to vote to advance the bill without getting an ironclad guarantee that Democrats would have more opportunity to amend the legislation.

Those Democratic lawmakers have likened the handling of the bill to a disorganized retreat and warn that it has sparked deep frustration in a caucus still stung from the loss of their majority in November.

“There is huge frustration that the bill didn’t go to committee on something so consequential,” fumed one Democratic senator who requested anonymity to discuss the intense debate that rocked the caucus.

@TND
Fresh off President Donald Trump's inauguration, the Senate on Monday passed a bill that would require federal authorities to detain migrants accused of theft and violent crimes.

The Laken Riley Act now heads back to the Republican-controlled House, which passed its version earlier this month and will need to approve changes made in the Senate.

🚨 JUST IN: President Trump will sign the Laken Riley Act into law at the White House on Wednesday, per WH officials

ICE will then be REQUIRED to detain illegals charged with various crimes, including theft-related offenses and violent crimes.

FINALLY!

President Trump promised Laken's family he wouldn't forget about them, and he's keeping that promise.
