CES (Current Employment Statistics)
The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) uses the CES monthly survey to estimate employment, hours, and earnings. The BLS publishes annual revisions to these estimates, which are based on state unemployment insurance (UI) tax records. The benchmark revision is a proxy for the total survey error, which is the sum of sampling and non-sampling error. The benchmark revision is the difference between two employment estimates derived from separate statistical processes.
