The Pentagon has batted down a claim from a New Jersey lawmaker that the SUV-sized drones being spotted all over New Jersey come from an Iranian “mothership” located just off the East Coast.

Rep. Jeff Van Drew (R-NJ) said he received information from “very high sources, very qualified sources, very responsible sources” that the mysterious drones were identified as coming from Iran. He said the “military is on alert” to the drones and should be prepared to shoot them down.

“I’m gonna tell you the real deal,” he said in a Fox News appearance Wednesday. “Iran launched a mothership probably about a month ago that contains these drones. It’s off the East Coast of the United States of America. It’s everything that we can see or hear.”

He addressed three possible explanations for the drone sightings: It was either the United States government, a hobbyist or group of hobbyists, or an “adversarial country.”

Van Drew said, “We know it’s not our own government because they would have let us know,” and it couldn’t be hobbyists because “they don’t have the technology.” On the prospect of the drones coming from a U.S. adversary, he said that “Iran made a deal with China to purchase drones, motherships, and other technology in order to go forward.”

New Jersey residents frustrated with a lack of answers regarding dozens of potential drone sightings in the skies above their homes are threatening to take action on their own if the government doesn't start providing answers.

James Ward, a Jersey Shore realtor, shared video on Facebook that he said showed "SUV-size drones" above Island Beach State Park taken Sunday. It's difficult to judge their size in the clip, which showed a number of lights hovering in the sky.

"Dozens of SUV-size drones in all directions," the caption read. "Emerging at same time and flying over the ocean and then heading in different directions – what do you think?"

"A good shotgun will fix that problem," one commenter replied.

It sounds like hysteria to me. Lots of people fly drones all over the place. With all the attention more people will do it. Drones can also be programmed to fly in formation making larger shapes in the sky. Funny how all these drones have lights... Not something any spy drone would have. In addition, spy drones would more likely be flown during the day so that they can photograph things and not be noticed instead of being bright lights in the sky... Really lame...

Mysterious aircraft sightings have been reported around New Jersey lately.


The incidents have fueled theories, including that Iran may have launched the systems from a ship.

Iran does have drone-carrying vessels, but satellite images show they're far from the US right now.

Newly captured satellite imagery shows that Iran's drone carriers are off its southern coast, thousands of miles away from the eastern United States.

I realize Iran's government hates the US, but they have more immediate concerns all around them, supporting their very endangered proxies and trying to frustrate attacks by Israel.

Again, in the wake of 9/11, every unidentified object in the sky is a possible terrorist weapon delivery system.  Start shooting $h!t down before civilians start taking things into their own hands.

It seems the only way to get Federal officials off their @$$e$ is to compete with them.

Let every good citizen of New Jersey with a long gun go out and take aim at these things.

There will be way WAY too many shooters for the government to prosecute (or even FIND).
I predict that in VERY short order we will have the truth behind these "drones" and where they're coming from...

The problem I have is the targets are likely WAY out of the range of shotguns.  It will take large caliber rifles, and those missed shots will eventually return to earth intact.  Raining lead, Hell of an event.
