MSNBC anchor Rachel Maddow will reportedly take a $5 million pay cut as the cable television network's ratings continue to nosedive.

This follows Comcast, NBC's parent company, announcing it would split MSNBC and CNBC from NBC News in a bid to create a new spin-off company with several other Comast-owned cable channels.
 
Maddow, 51, currently earns an impressive $30 million a year at the network, but according to The Ankler, after renegotiations, her new contract will be for $25 million a year over the next five years.
 
"No one else can do what she does. You can't build a brand like it overnight."

Where are the people whining about how her $30 million per year compares to teachers, nurses and various other unionized workers? Sen. Sanders? Mizz Ocasio-Cortez? Any comment?

Rachel Maddow Show is currently the #1 most popular show on MSNBC and 93rd overall on TV, watched by a total number of 1,488,000 people (0.47% rating, up +11% from last week) as of the daily audience measurement on November 18, 2024. USTVDB

Isn't she up against Hannity?  Hannity is currently the third most popular show on Fox News and 42nd overall on TV, watched by a total number of 3,322,000 people (1.05% rating, up +22% from yesterday) as of the daily audience measurement on November 19, 2024. USTVDB

The 2024 election has upended the media landscape, but nowhere has the fallout been more pronounced than at MSNBC. With ratings in free fall after Donald Trump’s decisive victory, insiders say the network is preparing for a major overhaul. Changes include programming shakeups, shifting roles for household names, and, notably, a significant pay cut for its star anchor, Rachel Maddow.

Maddow, who once commanded a staggering $30 million annual salary, has reportedly re-upped her contract for a fraction of that amount. She has renegotiated her contract for a $25 million salary over the next five years. According to The Ankler, Maddow’s deal was quietly renewed earlier this fall under vastly different terms.

“This is a difficult time and they needed to keep her,” an executive explained to The Ankler. “No one else can do what she does. You can’t build a brand like it overnight.”

Another executive referred to Maddow as “ratings Viagra.”

The network intends to deploy her as a “secret weapon” on other shows during breaking news events, the outlet reported. “We were so pro-Harris that when she lost, viewers were shocked,” an on-air commentator revealed. “It turned into one giant echo chamber. If MSNBC wants to serve its viewers well, they can’t keep them in a fantasy land.”

Another executive referred to Maddow as “ratings Viagra.”

Viagra is, as I understand it, a drug to induce heterosexual males into a form of arousal.
I very much doubt that this guy/girl/half and half has erected any male since decades.

It's a 16% "slash." Not huge. She's still gets $25 million a year for flannel shirts and sensible shoes, if she needs them.
