Mexican Navy seizes record-breaking 18,300 lbs of drugs at sea

The Mexican navy announced the completion of a maritime operation during which a record amount of drugs was seized in the Pacific—exactly 18,300 pounds—the estimated value of the seized cargo amounts to $146.2 million.

"Navy personnel seized 8,361 kilograms of illicit cargo, which represents the largest amount of drugs seized in a maritime operation, unprecedented in history," stated the Mexican Navy fleet in a Friday release.
 
The seizure occurred in the Pacific Ocean, southwest of the city of Lazaro Cardenas, located in the state of Michoacan on the western coast of Mexico. Twenty-three people were arrested in the operation.
