The Ted Cruz campaign says Allred is out of touch with Texas values because Texans don’t want to be forced to buy electric vehicles.Democrat U.S. Rep. Colin Allred (TX-32) has voted against a resolution condemning federal Environmental Protection Agency mandates related to increased “emission standards.”
The EPA’s rule suggests raising emission standards would decrease sales of gas-fueled cars and increase sales of electric cars.
The joint resolution against the rule passed with overwhelming Republican support.
Allred is running against incumbent U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) and has been criticized by the Cruz campaign for his vote.
“Colin Allred just told ranchers in West Texas, farmers in East Texas, Border Patrol agents in South Texas, and truckers in North Texas that he wants to force them to drive electric vehicles,” a Cruz campaign spokesperson told Texas Scorecard. “That should go over great. This again proves how grossly out of touch Allred is with everyday Texans.”
Just yesterday, Allred posted an endorsement from the Natural Resources Defense Council, a group that advocates against oil and gas for “climate justice.”
Cruz and Allred have agreed to a televised debate on October 15 before they face off in the November 5 General Election.
