HERSHEY, Pa. – I hear it everywhere I go, in every corner and crevice of the country that I have covered during this election, menacing talk about Project 2025. Never mind that Donald Trump has nothing to do with Project 2025, never mind that the canard that he does is a coordinated lie between Democrats and the media, the fact is, it is working.

In this town of 15,000 known for chocolate, I met Mark and his service dog. He is retired military and told me, "Nobody does research, people just believe what they are told," adding, "I’m Gen X, we had actual libraries, we had to look things up with the the…"

"Dewey Decimal System?" I chimed in.

"Exactly, thanks," he replied. "Now people just accept whatever Google spits out at them."

Mark might have a point, because typically, in fact almost always, voters who bring up Project 2025 to me have no real understanding of what it is or what’s in it.

My mother spoke of an experience she had in Lancaster back in 1964.  She would ask residents if they were thinking of voting for Goldwater.  Their response was always, "No, he's going to take our pensions away.  He's going to take our pensions away."  She would then point out that they didn't have pensions.  But their response never changed.
