It's Mind-blowing! SpaceX's New EVA Spacesuit Just Shocked NASA's Scientists...

If, about two years ago, there were still people who believed that SpaceX's spacesuit was only aesthetically pleasing, by September 11th, these individuals had to feel embarrassed for their previous thoughts.

Through the spacewalk in the Polaris Dawn mission, we can see that SpaceX’s spacesuit is not only cool but also has superior technical functions and reliability, surpassing everything that other space companies, such as Boeing, and even NASA, have ever achieved.

So how exactly has SpaceX upgraded its spacesuit in such a unique way that it has amazed NASA scientists?

All will be in today’s episode of Alpha Tech:

And now, go back!

It's Mind-blowing! SpaceX's New EVA Spacesuit Just Shocked NASA's Scientists...

First, let's take a look at what NASA's astronaut suit looks like.

Do you remember the spacewalk event by NASA astronauts on the ISS in June? Yes, before this happened, the process had been delayed due to the 'discomfort issues with the astronaut suit.'

Indeed! When looking at this picture, we can see the heaviness and bulkiness of the outfit that the astronauts had to endure.

NASA's extravehicular activity (EVA) spacesuit consists of two main parts: the pressure suit and the life support system. The pressure suit is the outer part that maintains pressure in the near-vacuum environment of space, while the life support system is the backpack that astronauts wear.

When astronauts prepare for an EVA, they first wear a cooling suit, a tight-fitting suit made of spandex with about 300 feet of tubing to help cool and remove excess heat during the spacewalk.

Next comes the Hard-Upper Torso, which is essentially the sleeveless upper body section available in various sizes. It has a display and control module, which is the control panel for the suit. However, the sizing of these suits is a mess. Instead of customizing the spacesuit to fit the wearer, NASA has produced upper torsos, arms, and lower bodies in different sizes to offer a mix-and-match fitting experience. This doesn't account for the fact that many people's bodies are shaped differently from men's — women may have wider hips, narrower shoulders, etc.

Then there are the gloves, which have built-in heaters, and the lower body section.
