New York State June 2024 Heat Wave Summary: A ‘Nothingburger’

Editors Note:  Last week, the mainstream media went into full alarmist mode for the first heatwave of the summer, with headlines such as, Scorching Temperatures Put Nearly 100 Million Under Heat Advisories (New York Times), Why intense heat waves are more likely because of climate change (Washington Post), and Bill Nye says record-breaking extreme heat ‘a taste of the normal of the future’ (ABC News). CNN also chimed in by having climate alarmist Michael Mann on camera in an interview.

However, when actual temperatures were compared to historical temperatures, records weren’t set and the asserted dangers failed to materialize. This guest essay by Roger Caiazza demonstrates that predicted dangers the Northeast U.S. power grid from the early summer temperatures also failed to come to pass, ultimately being a big nothingburger.

Before the heat wave started this week my article, Get Out the Popcorn – NYS Heat Wave Might Affect the Grid,  about the potential impact on the New York State grid was published.  Even though there is continued heat it appears that the worst is over so this is an update on what happened.

The New York Independent System Operator (NYISO) recently issued its Power Trends 2024 report which is billed as their “annual analysis of factors influencing New York State’s power grid and wholesale electricity Markets”.
