Tussle Over East Texas Wind Farm Headed to Trial

Texas Scorecard by  Erin Anderson June 19, 2024

Residents of Fannin and Lamar counties are fighting to stop development of the Bug Tussle Wind Ranch.

Residents in rural East Texas are suing to stop development of a 30,000-acre wind farm known as the Bug Tussle Wind Ranch.

Local landowners argue the project’s offshore-size turbines will result in destruction of property value and loss of livelihood, violating Texas nuisance laws.

The plaintiffs filed their lawsuit against a neighboring landowner who has signed a lease agreement with Cielo Wind, the developer of the proposed $300 million wind farm project.

The project is scheduled to start construction this year in Lamar and Fannin counties.

A judge ruled earlier this month that the lawsuit can proceed, denying a motion to dismiss filed by the defendant.

“This is an important first step to hold landowners personally responsible for the effects of bringing offshore-size, 800-foot high Industrial Wind Turbines into Fannin and Lamar county communities and in close proximity to homes and businesses,” said Chris Wilson, a Fannin County landowner whose group Stop Fannin-Lamar Wind has been fighting the project for two years.

I wish them every success! Time to stop these boondoggles!
"I wish it need not have happened in my time," said Frodo.

"So do I," said Gandalf, "and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us."

I bet nobody has done any studies as to how this huge wind farm will affect wind patterns, temperatures....you know changing the climate in the area, also what will the be the effect on any raptors and pollinators and plant/animal life because of it? Or as usual did the Feds just give them a pass because...green bullshit?

It will definitely create a heat shadow - an area downwind from the windfarm itself where temperatures will increase because of the slower windspeeds of the air moving over the ground due to the removal of energy from the wind by the windfarm.

And probably more arid as a result, that area wouldn't already be drought prone now would it? What Ami saying, who cares as long as the Gaia worshipers get what they want and kick backs are delivered.

I can't say much. Folks are welcome to do as they please. And I'd reckon that there are residuals paid to farmers for planting them damnable contraptions on their land.

But Oklahoma.
What they've done to the skyline ought to be criminal.

How about we just build some nuclear reactors such as those we have used to power naval vessels for at least the last seventy-five years and call it good? To hell with who's ox gets gored in the process!

Part agreement, but a blight on those who do it.  So much of vistas out west have been ruined by this shit.
I display the Confederate Battle Flag in honor of my great great great grandfathers who spilled blood at Wilson's Creek and Shiloh.  5 others served in the WBTS with honor too.
