The Haitian flotilla sailing towards Florida is right out of the closing chapters of "The Camp of the Saints", by Jean Raspail.
Florida is in a bad way.
Even Texas is in a better position to defend itself against invasion. Building their own "border barrier" is easy enough when the border is only a relatively narrow river with dry land on the other side.
But how does Florida create "a barrier" to protect its hundreds and hundreds of miles of beaches and coast line upon which the boats will soon be landing?
You can't build a border wall at the low tide line.
Does Florida have its own version of the Coast Guard?
How many boats do they have?
What kind of police power can the state exercise against the Haitian invaders?
The population of Haiti is around 11 million.
What if one third of them try to reach Florida?
Even only one-quarter?
What if they come 20, 30, 40 "boats at a time"?
How is the U.S. Coast Guard going to deal with THAT?
Mr. DeSantis and his fellow Republicans there had better come up with some bold ideas, and come up with them FAST.
I'd suggest calling up "an un-organized militia", and as many private boat owners as can be found. And then send them out to "protect the coast", and authorize them to use whatever force is required to repel the invading boats.
Of course, that's not going to be done.
But if this invasion is going to be stopped, well... that's what you have to do.
Otherwise... it's over.
