The Mystery Of The Uncontrolled Hatred Of Fossil Fuels And Those Who Produce Them

What is it about fossil fuels and the people who produce them that brings forth such uncontrolled hatred, anger, and vengefulness in a very large segment of the population?

I’ve been trying to figure out the answer to that question for many years, but I’m no closer today than when I started.  I look at the use of fossil fuels in the world, and somehow I see enormous benefits to mankind — reliable electricity, transportation of people locally and at long distances, and of freight to enable worldwide trade, comfortable heating and cooling of homes, refrigeration to preserve food, computers, and so much more, all at remarkably low cost and remarkably small environmental impact.  Most uses of fossil fuels either have no good substitutes (e.g., air travel, ocean shipping, steel-making), or only substitutes that have both higher cost, plus inferior functionality and/or their own environmental problems (e.g., wind, solar, or nuclear for electricity). 

With almost no exceptions (e.g., the Unabomber) everybody who has access to fossil fuels or their energy output uses them in large quantities, precisely because they provide great benefits at low cost and low environmental impact, in ways that nothing else can.  Even the most virtue signaling of climate fanatics, with almost no exceptions, won’t give up air travel, or buildings made with steel and concrete, or full-time life-saving electricity at the hospital, or plenty of other things that come only from fossil fuels.

They don't hate fossil fuels. They just hate that you the little people use them. They don't have no problem using them and denying you the right to them.

This is about class, privilege and a perceived status of royalty, not 'fossil' fuels.

I can understand the wicked motives of those in power, but I can't understand why the ordinary people buy into it.

"The witness whose testimony I remember most vividly was a thirty-ish woman who stated that her young son had severe asthma, which she blamed on the fumes emitted by her gas-powered kitchen stove.  Speaking of the health problems of her son, this woman broke down in tears and deep sobs, which definitely seemed genuine, and blamed the son’s problems on the uncaring gas utility.  And yet for some reason she continued to use the gas stove.  Had it never occurred to her that it was completely within her agency to go out and buy an electric stove?"

Are we so sick that we thrive on victimhood? This is as grotesque as TDS. I'd like to see it named and studied. And addressed in psychiatric circles. Not with meds, but with reason. And actual facts.

It's the Goebbels effect.  Tell a lie long enough and people will believe it.  And the bigger the lie, the more who will believe it.

That's the problem. For most of these, they think the 1960s street tactics are a new idea, and the 70s (50 years ago) are lost in the murk of contemporaneous propaganda and historical distortion.

I'm with your. If something in my house was making my kids sick, it would go, or the house would.  Are these people that stuck on being victims or that incpable of affecting their world?

And that's not even accounting for the possible effects of cleaners getting cooked off the stove or cookware that might have an adverse effect (spray that scent stuff over the stove?)...and myriad other possible triggers for asthma.

What you say here definitely applies to the likes of Algore and Kerry

But that little Thunberg girl is a true believer. There are a lot of people who really believe that they will never see middle-age because of gas,coal, and oil

Remember that protester that got in the hood of a car Joe Manchin was in screaming “I want to live?”

That person really believes that if we don’t ban carbon-based energy sources, he will die


And how far are people like that willing to go to ensure their longevity? Would they be willing to kill oil executives?
I have little interest in streamlining government or in making it more efficient, for I mean to reduce its size. I do not undertake to promote welfare, for I propose to extend freedom. My aim is not to pass laws, but to repeal them.

The hippies, far leftists and enviro-nazis have always hated oil. Any excuse to force people to be "one with nature" - in other words, live like a hippy in filthy squaller. It has been that way from at least the 60's. Everything oil has been doom and gloom while at the same time vastly raising everyone's standard of living.

I'm have not been diagnosed as asthmatic, but I can't walk down the stinky candle aisle at WalMart, don't wear cologne, use the scent free laundry detergent, and avoid heavily perfumed people.  Breathing is easier.  I don't even have one of those tree thingys hanging from my rearview mirror.
