Biden White House readies national Net-Zero emissions building initiative

Residential and commercial buildings throughout the United States are in the bull’s eye of a White House plan “intended to help move the building sector to net-zero emissions.”

“A broadly accepted minimum definition of a zero-emissions building, as well as a pathway for documentation, is foundational to efforts by public and private entities to transition the building sector to zero greenhouse gas emissions,” the draft states. “The intent of the National Definition of a Zero Emissions Building is to create a standardized, consistent, measurable basis for zero emissions buildings.”

Great Britain is already proving net zero is a farce but Biden never let facts get in the way of political strategy.

Net-Zero is a laudible goal, a prohibitive requirement, and an unachievable result.

Energy efficiency, cleaner air, and cleaner water are good things, especially when unwritten by proven economics and technologies.  Otherwise, a trail of failed, incomplete, or operationally expensive projects result.

We should be striving for progess, not perfection.  Perfection may be too elusive for a single generation to achieve.

The smoke from the Summer's Canadian wild fires reminded me how much clear the Summer air is in 2023 versus 1983.  2023 air stanadards may not be perfect, but they have made a noticible improvement in Summer air quality over the past 40 years.  A little something (progress) is better than a whole lot of nothing (perfection).

Politics is a game of field position football.  The objective is to score more points, maintain field position advantage, and run down the clock - all to keep the other team's offense off the field and out of scoring position.
