Non-binary ex-Biden official Sam Brinton was on secret taxpayer-funded trip at time of luggage theft

By Thomas Catenacci, Fox News
July 17, 2023

Sam Brinton, the embattled non-binary former senior Department of Energy (DOE) official, was traveling on a taxpayer-funded business trip at the time of a high-profile baggage theft last year, internal Biden administration documents show.

Brinton traveled in early July 2022 to the DOE-operated Nevada National Security Site near Las Vegas, according to internal Department of Energy (DOE) filings and expense reports obtained by watchdog group Functional Government Initiative (FGI) and shared with Fox News Digital.

Brinton flew on a United Airlines flight from Washington, D.C., to Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas on July 6, 2022, the documents showed.

Months later, in early December, Las Vegas prosecutors charged Brinton with grand larceny of an item valued between $1,200 and $5,000.

Police accused Brinton of stealing a suitcase with a total estimated worth of $3,670 at Harry Reid International Airport on July 6, 2022, the same day Brinton traveled to Las Vegas on official DOE business.

... "It’s outrageous that tax dollars transported Brinton to and from the scene of a crime, putting the American public unwittingly at the wheel of the getaway car," FGI spokesperson Peter McGinnis said in a statement to Fox News Digital.

"The federal government obviously needs a more stringent vetting process for senior-level positions," McGinnis added. "Senior officials committing petty crime while on the clock is a clear indication that something is dysfunctional in the personnel procedures."  ...

How 'bout we start by declining to hire the seriously mentally ill - larcenous or not - to important senior-level positions?

The guy is a mentally ill idiot.
Having said that, I have never understood the luggage theft thing.  How did he know what suitcases to steal?  How did he not end up with the suitcases of 70 year old dumpy women?

Good question.  Most likely, he was casing the check-in lines to see what luggage people checked, and then, based on the appearance of the person checking in a given piece of luggage, he probably memorized the luggage they checked in and then looked for that particular piece on the baggage claim area.

Which makes him much more dangerous than simply a theft of opportunity.

Yeah, definitely predator vibes.

I've been given the up-and-down look from men before -- I doubt there's a woman who hasn't.  But it's pretty skeevy to think of someone giving the up-and-down look in order to consider if her clothes would fit him.  Blech.

Members of Congress are asking why the security and vetting process missed Brinton’s apparent theft compulsion before any appointment. The concern is that Brinton’s luggage may have been checked but Brinton was not as a high-ranking Energy Department official. https://jonathanturley.org/2023/07/17/report-biden-official-committed-grand-larceny-while-on-sensitive-government-trip/

...It is unlikely that these were the only two such crimes. This has the markings of an individual who is so mentally unstable or delusional that the compulsion could not even be resisted on an official national security related trip.

He definitely has some mental issues.

UPDATE

A twitter acct called FOIA Fan is trying to get to the bottom (oops) of the Sam Brinton matter by means of FOIA requests.

@15poundstogo

Crowdsourcing two questions arising from a foia response:
1. Why would Sam Brinton have baggage fees ONLY for a RETURN flight?
2. Anyone lose a bag in Albuquerque on July 17th or 22nd, 2022?
This was only shortly after Brinton’s luggage theft on his Vegas trip. Pattern?

High end suitcases are most likely to have high end contents.
With his practiced eye, it looks like he was stealing bags, which themselves were worth more than my whole kit when I'm flying, on the gamble that they'd have high end contents including jewelry, cosmetics, and designer clothing. The ostentatious would have enough trouble containing that vice that they wouldn't be flying with Walmart cheapies for luggage, and those who were using cheaper luggage would be unlikely to have relatively valuable contents within..

With this kleptocrat administration, it's a feature, not a bug.
