WASHINGTON — The Navy will disband its Unmanned Task Force as part of the establishment of the new Disruptive Capabilities Office, according to a Navy spokesperson, bringing to an end the secretive but influential panel that has driven the service’s recent endeavors into maritime robotic technology.

“The DCO will leverage the Unmanned Task Force’s lessons learned, best practices and processes, and incorporate key UTF personnel. Upon standup of the DCO, the UTF will be disestablished,” the spokesperson said.

While the UTF’s work was done mostly behind closed — and classified — doors, former Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Michael Gilday said its goals were broken down into seven “spirals” aimed at taking specific technologies from industry vendors and determining their value to the future fleet.

The unity of government which constitutes you one people is also now dear to you. But as it is easy to foresee that, from different causes and from different quarters, much pains will be taken, many artifices employed to weaken in your minds the conviction of this truth.  George Washington - Farewell Address
